Skin Clearing Face Masks: High Street vs High End

Origins Clear Improvements Mask - £22 John Lewis

What it claims:

"Activated Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw aout pore-cloggers. White China Clay absorbs enviromental pollutants, Lecithin dissolves impurities. Without all that "stuff" down there, skin 'breathes a sigh of relief.'"

I normally apply this product after coming out of the shower in the evening when my pores are still open. I then apply a thick layer of the mask on my face. I normally leave this on for 5-10 minutes once a week. After a couple of minutes of having the clear improvements mask it started to feel quite tight on my skin and uncomfortable.

The product sets and dry’s quickly, however I felt that because of this the mask can be really hard to get off! Resulting in a rather vigorous rubbing and prodding with a flannel…which leads me to wonder if this is actually helping my skin or aggravating it! After using this product for a couple of weeks I started to notice a slight improvement in my skin but nothing major unfortunately!

Although it did clear a small amount of my pores, I did feel that it also made my skin dry and flaky because of this…meaning I just felt like I was going round in circles…frustrating!
I felt like that paying £22 for a 75ml tube really wasn’t worth it unfortunately L

Super Facialist By Una Brennan - Tea Flower Deep Clean Pore Purifying Clay Mask
(what a mouthful!)
- £8.99 Boots

What it claims: ‘Clear your skin of dirt, excessive oil and toxins which lead to breakouts with this pore purifying clay mask’

I apply a thick layer of this to my face and leave it for around 5 minutes. The thing about this mask is you can really see it getting to work as you can see your pores come through the mask as you wait…a mask you can see working its magic? Brilliant! The Tea Flower mask contains all the good ingredients including Salicylic acid (helps to unclog congested skin) Dead Sea Mud (helps to absorb oil) and also rich in magnesium, calcium, potassium and iron…(good for your body and good for your skin too!) as well as Avacado oil (which is rich in Vitamins A, D and E!) if that’s not tempting you already, it’s also a whole £13 cheaper than the origins clear improvements mask!

Overall, I would definitely recommend the ‘Super Facialist By Una Brennan - Tea Flower Deep Clean Pore Purifying Clay Mask’ over the ‘Origins Clear improvements Mask’ because:

·         It’s much cheaper… It’s a high end product at a high street price!
·         It lists all its ingredients on the packaging… Una B ain’t hiding anything!
·         It’s easy to apply and comfortable when waiting.
·         You get a lot more product for a lot less money!
·         The instructions are clear… Orgins didn’t recommend how long to leave the mask on for… so I felt like if I left it on too long it may break me out therefore having completely the opposite effect!

Have you tried any high street or high end face masks recently? How do you find them? Let me know in the comments!
